Wow!

BUKANG VILLAGE

Bukang  is a little village it place in about 350 kilometers from Pontianak city or in Ketapang regency ,west Borneo. It surrounded by many hills in east as Timor adjacent with Bang Kaming, and Mengkapa, in west is Brugak, in south are Skuap and Bakah, and in north are Juring and Samugo. Juring, Brugak and Timor hill are protected forest. There is a clear river named Banjur river in edge of this village. It is a big and long river so there are thousands small river there too.

There are about four hundred people stay there.  Most  of them are  farmer  remaining are state enterprise like me. They go to garden of rubber everyday to basic necessities of life and included to their schoolchildren. If there are many time left they have to go to agricultural field or rice field. To fulfill their requirement of meats they hunt to the forest. They hunt pig or anything animals like civet, squirrel, deer, antelope, mouse deer, etc. To fulfill  their vegetables they can cultivate it or seek in forest like bamboo shoot, fungus, cassava leaf or  anything it can  be eating (its not contains the poison).

All of the people there have a catholic religious and dayak ethnic although some of them still believe with the great one proven to be with traditions like “ngorak kramat” (wake a sacred) “Bebantan” (cleaning the village with bad spirit, require rains, require to great one to estranged from plague or ills ) and still many traditions that I don’t  tell here. They do that caused by their opinion in order to the old traditions still cared.

In education level Bukangese included  has many scholars. The number are 30 or more people till  nowadays.  So there are 40 or more people graduation the secondary school. The age of over 50 people graduation are the elementary school only and remaining are illiteracy. Ironically many child break of school there caused by economic reason and that is obvious. Substantively they need scholarships besides many child intelligent. For they  got on scholar  only with a will or one’s own accord and parents backing like me. To carrying on secondary school they should go to Balai Berkuak subdistrict about 40 km distance it closest subdistrict  or go to Ketapang. Pontianak and Java are direction to college.

In buildings level, For the moment the roads in this village still not good. If  rainy  season you  are difficulty to go across the roads especially  by use of motorcycle and car. If evening  this village is dark there are not lighting or State Electricity Enterprise. fittingly  the Indonesia government  doesn’t faring our village  besides already  67 years Indonesia independence. There is one building of Elementary school only third class.

Bukang has beauty naturals amaze like Meraek waterfall, Timor hill, Mengkapa hill, Beruang river. That places are please and suitable to break of  depression even make you happy. That places have ever visited by tourists from Germany and  USA. They researched about customs while journeyed to around places.

Every March there is always durian fruit season.  Many people visit this village to collect durians. They come from other  villages other than local village. Durian can made one be delicious food its name are lempok and tempoyak. They are special foods from Borneo as a general and in particular in back countries.
